Minister announces that there will not be a tax on single-use coffee cups in Ireland

The Irish government is looking at recommendations in the new EU Plastic Strategy for national administrations to see what can be delivered in the short term. The previously dubbed ‘latte levy’, a tax on single-use coffee cups will not be introduced, according to Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment Denis Naughten. A pilot ‘deposit and return scheme’ (DRS) is likely to be introduced for plastic drinks containers.
